Engineering Philosophy

Under the Hood, Beyond Abstractions

“Modern computing relies on compounding layers of abstraction that often hide hardware bottlenecks. My engineering begins where those abstractions break down.”

As a software engineer and academic researcher, I bridge the gap between mathematical AI formulations and low-level systems execution. Whether architecting GPU-native physics engines in CUDA and C++20 simulating 65k+ environments with zero-copy PyTorch integration, or instrumenting thousands of lines of reference C++ in VTM 24.0 (H.266/VVC) to profile rate-distortion trade-offs, my focus remains constant: maximum algorithmic throughput with zero wasted compute.

Simultaneously, I bring computational models into the interactive visual domain through Unreal Engine (C++) and Three.js, treating graphics not as decorative dressing, but as the primary high-framerate interface for complex simulated worlds.

GPU Simulation & Parallel RL

Eliminating sequential CPU bottlenecks and PCIe memory transfer latency by executing physics, collisions, and policy rollouts natively on GPU VRAM with custom CUDA kernels.

Algorithmic Video Compression

Conducting academic research on next-gen video codecs (H.266/VVC), instrumenting reference C++ codebases, and profiling AMVR search heuristics for AI optimization.

Real-Time 3D & Graphics

Architecting interactive 3D simulations and shaders with Unreal Engine and Three.js, balancing fidelity against strict 16.6ms (60 FPS) draw budgets.

Competitive Analytical Rigor

Proven problem-solving capabilities under pressure, validated by a Gold Medal / Top 28 nationwide finish at the National Artificial Intelligence Olympiad.

RocketSim-CUDA: >5000x GPU Physics Acceleration

01. The Bottleneck

Challenge: Training Deep Reinforcement Learning agents in continuous control domains requires billions of physics steps. Standard single-threaded CPU physics engines create severe throughput bottlenecks, while continuous host-to-device PCIe memory transfers throttle neural network training.

02. Architecture Decision

Architecture: Ground-up C++/CUDA rewrite with strict 1:1 physical parity against Bullet Physics. Replaced polygon raycasts with analytic O(1) Signed Distance Fields (SDF), engineered coalesced Structure of Arrays (SoA) memory layouts, and enabled zero-copy PyTorch tensor sharing via DLPack directly in VRAM.

03. Benchmark Impact

Impact: Simulates 65,536+ arenas (262k+ cars) concurrently on a single consumer GPU, achieving 116M+ SPS (Steps Per Second) and a >5,000x empirical speedup over CPU execution with zero PCIe round-trip traffic.

VVC AMVR Complexity Profiler (VTM 24.0)

01. The Bottleneck

Challenge: The Versatile Video Coding standard (H.266/VVC) delivers superior compression efficiency over HEVC, but incurs prohibitive encoder complexity. Adaptive Motion Vector Resolution (AMVR) evaluates multiple precision candidate modes, dominating Rate-Distortion Optimization (RDO) runtime.

02. Architecture Decision

Architecture: Forked and instrumented the official ISO/IEC VTM 24.0 C++ reference codebase. Integrated low-overhead telemetry probes into the inter-prediction search loops to profile execution cycles, RD cost curves, and memory access patterns, creating structured datasets for AI-driven early-termination classifiers.

03. Benchmark Impact

Impact: Characterized empirical complexity bounds, demonstrating that 30-40% of redundant search branches can be bypassed with negligible BD-rate penalty, providing the foundational dataset for ongoing academic research.
